Botox Injection

Commonly Used For

Pelvic Floor Tightness

How does this procedure work?

Botulinium toxin, more commonly known as botox, can be injected into specific muscles of the pelvic floor to relax and temporarily paralyse these muscles so they don’t contract and tense.

By disallowing the muscle to squeeze and tense, we create a more relaxed state of the vaginal opening. This makes it easier for vaginal penetration.

The injection sites are purely external and just adjacent to the vaginal opening next to the remnant of your hymen.

What can I expect after the procedure?

There will be a tolerable stinging sensation as the botox is injected into the targeted muscle. Once botox has been fully injected, no further pain is experienced and you can return to all your usual daily activities after the procedure.

The maximal muscle relaxation and muscle paralysis effect will take place at about Day 14 after the procedure. We encourage all women with vaginismus or painful vaginal penetration due to tightened pelvic floor muscles to start using their dilators regularly from this point. You would find that dilator insertion to be much easier, more comfortable and less painful.

The botox will continue to have effects for 6 months. During this time, diligent practice with vaginal dilators will allow you to experience successful, painless vaginal penetration.

As your confidence with dilator insertions increases, you can progress to penile penetration. The progression is so seamless that you will not realise when the botox effect has worn away as you would have had multiple successful painless vaginal penetration by then.

How long does the procedure take?

Ensure you have ample time set aside for the procedure. The numbing with topical numbing creams will take approximately 45 mins.

The botox session only takes a few minutes.

How many sessions are required?

Only 1 session of botox is required. So far, I have not had to repeat this procedure again for patients with vaginismus (secondary or primary).

Who is not suitable for this procedure?

Botox cannot be performed on pregnant women and those allergic to botulinium toxin.

What should I prepare before the procedure?

Keep the hairs over the pubic area short so they do not get in the way of where the injections are administered.

Bring along a panty liner as there may be a small amount of bleeding.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects from botulinum toxin injection in the genital areas are very rare.
We do caution you of the possibility of anal incontinence. We are very careful to avoid injection of the botox into the anal muscles.

Botox side effects are temporary. As the botox wears away after 6 months, so will the side effects.

What is the cost of this procedure?

This procedure is $2000.

I'd spent a while trying to find a general practitioner in Singapore with some very, very mixed results (although I will admit to being a difficult patient sometimes). Dr. Jess was recommended to me when I suffered an acute condition and I can't believe how lucky I am to have found her when I did. She has that fantastic ability to be both amazingly friendly and approachable whilst still being incredibly knowledgeable, professional and focused on getting the best outcome possible for your health needs at the same time. As someone who has a background history in medical research and teaching medical students, I'm constantly impressed with the way Dr. Jess has always used both trusted, conservative methods whilst also being up to date with new techniques and the latest knowledge, and will research for answers and present it in a manageable, down-to-earth and tailored way - or recommend excellent specialists when required. I cannot recommend her highly enough, and she would be my doctor of choice no matter where I lived in Singapore. Also worth mentioning is that her staff are always very polite, friendly, competent and go out of their way to be helpful. I don't write reviews very often, but five incredibly well deserved stars.

Last week (13th Feb 2020) was my first visit to this clinic. I was very impressed and satisfied with InSync Medical Women's Clinic. Dr. Jess was very attentive and detailed in examining my situation. Her explanation was very clear and understandable. With her patience, I was able to ask lots of questions and understand my situation much better than before. (Thank you, Dr. Jess) Price wise, it is reasonable and I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic. Again, thank you!

Dr Jess is an amazing doctor with a beautiful heart. What I really love about her is that is super realistic. She does not promise rapid/fake results. She is very humble and I really like it that spent her time to talk and explain to me about my condition in detail. I have been to so many other doctors for the same. They will just talk briefly and try to push me to start the treament on the spot / nurses will start discussing on pricing.Wasted my time and money in the wrong clinic before. However, Dr Jess is just different. She is not greedy. Very helpful and high level of professionlism and empathy. And her staff Hani is super sweet too. Customer service top notch. Sometime I send message so late when i need something urgently. Hani will still reply to me patiently. I am so lucky I finally found the best doctor and her assitant for my lady needs 🙂 . I only have one regret-I didnt find them earlier.
