The Sex Paradox
The more you expect your penis to perform, the less it will.
ED could be a red herring for something more sinister. Like diabetes and heart disease
The blood vessels found in the penis are by far the smallest in the body – which means they get clogged up before any others. Erectile dysfunction can predate a potential heart problem by 2-3 years.
Erectile dysfunction has multiple underlying causes.
• Psycho-social stresses and its impact on interpersonal relationships
• Nerve and blood vessel damage
• Diabetes
• High Blood Pressure
• Leakage of blood flow from the penis
• Hormonal issues
• Too little Testosterone and too much Estrogen
• Prostate enlargement
• Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction
FAQ
How common is erectile dysfunction?
Nearly all men who live long enough will develop erectile dysfunction. A male ageing study found that 52% of men between 40 and 70 years old reported having some form of erectile dysfunction. The reality is that erectile dysfunction is a natural part of ageing and its prevalence increases with age. In the same study, they found that roughly 50% of men at 50 years old, 60% of men at 60 years old and 70% of men at 70 years old have erectile dysfunction.
Is erectile dysfunction solely caused by ageing?
No! Besides advancing age, there are many factors that may also contribute to the condition.
How do such drugs work?
These drugs are formally known as PDE-5 inhibitors.
These medications do improve erectile quality for the majority of men, and they work by enhancing blood flow into the penis. These medications are generally used on demand and need to be taken about half an hour to an hour before sexual intimacy.
