What causes genitals to darken?

During puberty, sex hormones tend to increase in the body. This also causes an increase in melanin, which darkens sex organs like the nipples, areolas and labia. Pregnancy hormones may cause this change too.

When the skin experiences friction, it naturally thickens to protect itself. This is called keratinization, where cells containing keratin go into overdrive and start moving higher up into the top-most layer of the skin. Our daily activities (walking, running, sex) tend to cause this friction.
Treat your genital skin like you would your face.
Treatment Options
Just like facials, lasers and chemical peels can restore the skin covering your genitals to its soft and youthful-looking appearance.

We use a non-toxic acidic chemical that works beautifully for Asian skin. When applied to the affected area, the active ingredient, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) stimulates the top layers of the skin to peel and rejuvenate the underlying skin. For darker-skinned individuals, fret not. We understand how to work with the full spectrum of Asian skin tones, and will prep darker skin tones with a lightening cream through daily use for 4-8 weeks. This reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation when using chemical peels, and ensures you have the best possible outcome.
With a dedicated genital laser known as Lite Scanner, we utilise Fractional CO2 lasers to gently peel away darkened layers to expose the lighter, smoother skin underneath.

We’re here to answer even the most sensitive and intimate questions. Take the first step, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Lasers FAQ
What should I expect during laser treatment?
The genital skin is numbed with a topical anaesthetic cream. Laser is then applied over the desired area. The laser leaves pockets of healthy skin between the areas that have been ablated to allow for rapid healing. Antibiotic cream and a good amount of emollient or moisturising ointment are then applied to lock in the hydration. The actual laser session takes only a few minutes.
Can lasers be used to lighten inner thighs too?
Laser genital lightening is best for the labia and peri-anal area only. For lightening the inner thigh area, we recommend chemical peel.
How many sessions are required?
It typically takes a minimum of 6 sessions for effective lightening. If there are stubborn, deeper pigments, then a couple more sessions may be required (approx 2 – 4 sessions)
How much time is needed between each session?
Each session is about 3 weeks apart so the top-most layer of skin can regenerate. Lasering skin that has not fully regenerated as would increase the risk of open red wounds.
How much is the laser treatment?
Each session is $182.
Chemical Peels FAQ
How is the chemical peel procedure done?
We encourage you to shave the hairs 2 – 3 days from the first procedure from your genital, groin fold and inner thigh area. No prior numbing is required before the procedure. We will apply 2 or more coats of the chemical peel to the skin where the undesired darkened areas are. Your skin will then start to go a little whitish, like icing or frosting on a cake. Once we see a sufficient amount of this frosting, then we will apply a lightening cream to the entire treated area. The procedure is then done.
How long does a chemical peel take?
This procedure will last only 30 minutes.
How many sessions might I require?
If you’re very fair-skinned, then you may only require two session. If there are stubborn, deeper pigments, and Asian skin tones, then a minimum of 6 sessions may be required
Each session will be carried out around 3 weeks apart. It will take 3 weeks for the topmost layer of skin to form again.
Is it painful and is there any downtime?
The chemical should not sting or hurt you at any time during the application.
There is no downtime, you can carry on with your usual activities including sexual activities.
